"Only one quality, the finest" Madame Clicquot

She may have said it hundreds of years ago, but at Veuve Clicquot, where history and tradition play such an important role, these words still hold true today.

Probably the world's most instantly recognisable Champagne with its bright yellow label, Veuve Clicquot has always been known as a non-vintage champagne of excellent quality - a non-vintage which competes with vintage wines at twice the price.

Over 40,000 Vivino reviewers have scored this wine an incredible 4.2/5 - placing it in the top 2% of all wines on Vivino!

Always supremely good value for money even at full price, at this great price of £35.95 per bottle it is a brilliant deal! Unfortunately, we can only offer a few cases at this price, so please make sure you don't miss out!

A Champagne House is judged on the quality of its non-vintage. It is in the making of these wines that the true art of Champagne blending reveals itself. This is an art in which Veuve Clicquot excels.

About the wine

Veuve Clicquot have been investing both time and money into their NV over recent years and it shows. The delicate, fine mousse is immediately noticeable in the glass along with the wine's golden yellow colour. The nose is full of white fruit and citrus followed by brioche and more toasty notes. The dominance of Pinot Noir shows through on the palate, creating a rich, powerful Champagne, structured and vinous. This is balanced perfectly by the acidity and delicacy of the Chardonnay. It's a rare Champagne that can retain both power and finesse at the same time. Veuve Clicquot manages it admirably. An excellent NV indeed!

Grapes from as many as 50 to 60 different Crus are used for the blending of Yellow Label. The predominance of Pinot Noir provides the core structure of Clicquot, while a touch of Meunier rounds out the blend. Chardonnay adds the elegance and finesse essential to a perfectly balanced wine.

Traditionally, the proportion of each grape variety used is 50 to 55% Pinot Noir, 15 to 20% Pinot Meunier and 28 to 33% Chardonnay These figures vary slightly from year to year depending on conditions.

The Chef de Caves has to achieve the total consistency of taste, which makes Yellow Label immediately recognizable and utterly reliable both in terms of quality, color, and aroma.

The blend draws on a particularly high percentage of reserve wines originating from several harvests (usually 5 or 6): from 25 to 35%, sometimes as much as 40% to ensure the consistency of the House style. Each of these older wines - perhaps 9 years old - is kept separately to preserve the unique qualities of the vineyard and the vintage.

About the winery

Madame Clicquot was born in Reims in 1777. As the daughter of Baron Nicolas Ponsardin, her social standing allowed her to gain an excellent education, founded upon the traditional morals and values of the time.

In 1798 she married François Clicquot, son to the founder of the Maison Clicquot. François shared his passion and knowledge for champagne creation and distribution with his young wife. It was because she had spent this time at his side that Madame Clicquot was able to take the reins of the family house after the untimely death of François in 1805.

In an era when women were excluded from the business world, she dared to assume the head of the company, a role she undertook with passion and determination. Madame Clicquot’s character might be summarized in two words: audacious and intelligent.

She would seize each new opportunity that arose, willing to take risks, and as such she was able to expand her business to all four corners of the world. Uncompromising when it came to the quality of her wines, she perfected new techniques of production. She invented the “table de remuage” (riddling table) to clarify champagne, and innovated the very first blend of rosé champagne.

Within just a few years she made her name into a brand of excellence, a name today renowned throughout the world. Even then, her peers recognized her formidable contributions, and referred to her as the 'Grande Dame' of Champagne.

The house marked its bottles with its first yellow label in 1877, making the brand distinctive and instantly recognizable.

About the vineyard

The Veuve Clicquot vineyards cover 393 hectares of land. They spread over the very best Champagne grape growing areas: 12 of the 17 Grands Crus and 18 of the 44 Premiers Crus. The vineyards boast an exceptional average classification of close to 96%, a ranking that is based on the winegrowing properties of the terroir and the quality of the grapes produced.

"Pale straw gold. Light, complex nose. Good savour. Some smokiness. Really neat and tight. Lots of potential. Some appley acidity and really clean on the end. Very complex on the end. Full of vitality. One of the most youthful wines in this dozen. Delicate bead."

92 Points - James Suckling
This famous Yellow Label is is in great shape with a really fresh and complex integrated feel to it from head to toe. The nose has plenty of lemon and grapefruit citrus, as well as lightly toasted hazelnuts and ripe, summery fruits. On the palate it has the trademark assertive style, some useful cut and plenty of lemon biscuit flavor. A great all-rounder"

90 points - Josh Raynolds
"Light gold. Musky orchard fruits and dried fig on the mineral-accented nose. Fleshy and broad on the palate, offering smoky pear and nectarine flavors and a hint of honey. Finishes on a gently spicy note, with very good cling and a touch of bitter lemon pith.
"This wine always delivers. Lemon curd and apple, a bit of caramel, and brioche on the nose. On the palate, lemon and apple with caramel and toast. What impresses me most about this wine is its crisp acidity and clear-cut, structured minerality despite its overall feminine nature. Lingering, elegant finish"  4.5/5 Stars
"Always reliable, always elegant, always delicious. Great bubbles and great value"  4.5/5 Stars
"Love this sparkler! Toasted walnuts and lemon zest. This is certainly a crowd pleaser every time. What you at getting for this price point is absolutely amazing."  4.5/5 Stars

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
