Cava is back!

Not that it ever really went away, but for the past few years it has lost ground to the oceans of Prosecco being imported to the UK.

But now, with a renewed focus on quality and the great terroir of its vineyards, wine drinkers are once again recognising the value and enjoyment to be found in this part of Spain.

Wines like the Villa Conchi Extra Brut Imperial 2011 are leading the way in this Cava charge. Unlike Prosecco, it is made using the "méthode champenoise" and it shows!

Awarded 'Sparkling Wine Revelation of the Year' and 'Best Spanish Sparkling' at the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (after a blind tasting of hundreds of wines), it has also been picking up great reviews from the critics.

With an outstanding 4.1 stars from Vivino tasters, this delicious Cava is knocking on Champagne's door - and at just £14.95 per bottle, they had best be worried!

About the wine

Made using the rigorous and traditional "méthode champenoise", wines such as Villa Conchi Extra Brut Imperial 2011 are re-establishing the good name of Cava, using the region's great old vineyards.

Villa Conchi combines the traditional triad of grapes (Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada) with a percentage of Chardonnay that adds elegance and fruit. This wine needs demanding technical work: night harvesting to preserve aromas and freshness, separate vinification of each of the varieties, a very long second fermentation and aging of almost two years in the bottle.

A bright yellow in the glass, the Villa Conchi Extra Brut Imperial 2011 has a nose rich in white fruit (pear, green apple) with touches of pineapple and citrus zest, brioche notes, and a spicy florality. In the mouth, this Cava is dry, bright and fruity with an exceptional strength and freshness. With a creamy texture from the lees aging, a refreshing citrus acidy and a chalky, mineral note to the long, generous finish, this is a Cava that makes many Proseccos (and not a few Champagnes) pale in comparison!

About the winery

Loyal to his initial philosophy, Javier Ruiz de Galarreta selected excellent vineyards and modern facilities to produce a “different” Cava.

Throughout 2009, he traveled extensively in Catalonia to find partners capable of producing an elegant and fresh sparkling wine. In the heart of Penedès, he discovered the vineyards and qualities he was looking for to make such a style of wine.

During his quest to create this Cava, Javier’s mother Conchi passed away in July 2010 and wasn’t able to see her son's latest success. Thus Villa Conchi is not only a modern, elegant Cava which shows what Spain can offer, it is also a tribute to a woman who was always a source of inspiration for Javier.

About the vineyard

The vineyard chosen by Javier Ruiz de Galarreta for his stellar Cava is in the heart of Penedès, a region situated between the Mediterranean and the interior of Catalonia,

The Xarel-lo and the Chardonnay come mainly from vineyards closest to the Mediterranean, between the Alt Camp (around the municipality of Valls) and the Baix Penedès, while the Macabeo and the Parellada are harvested from vineyards further inland and nearer to Conca de Barberà. The vineyards have an average age of more than 25 years and are planted, at altitudes that sometimes approach 600 meters, on calcareous soil, whilst the surrounding mountain ranges, protect the vines from the cold northern winds.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING OVERVIEW

Thank you for trusting Vivino for your wine orders! In order to ensure that your wine is protected from the elements during transport, Vivino has developed a comprehensive program for temperature controlled shipping:

  • All shipments to Non-West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, NM) will be sent via temperature controlled truck to the closest regional hub. These facilities, referred to as "gateways", are temperature controlled and located strategically throughout the country.
  • Once a shipment arrives at the gateway*, it will be transferred to UPS or Fedex for the final part of its journey

* Note that ice packs (if ordered) will be added to your package at this time.

SHIPPING SCHEDULES FOR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPMENTS

All orders placed before 1pm EST on Wednesday will be shipped out on Friday of the same week. All orders placed after this time will be stored in a temperature controlled warehouse and shipped out the following Friday.

Delivery times, therefore, may take 8-14 days from order date, accounting for fulfillment, 4-5 days shipment to the regional hub, and 1-2 days for local delivery.

If you would like a more expeditious delivery option, please select 2-Day or Overnight Shipping.

TRACKING INFORMATION

Tracking information will not be available for your shipment until it reaches the regional hub, due to the fact that the shipment is sent via common (temperature controlled) carrier and there is no individual tracking number for the package.

You will however receive a confirmation email indicating that your shipment has left the West Coast warehouse and is en route to your closest regional hub. Your order will say "UPS Label Created", but this label will not be scanned until it reaches the regional hub.

Once the shipment reaches the regional hub, you will be able to track your package (likely 4-5 days after shipping date). At this point, the package is en route to your home/office.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED SHIPPING

  • Your wine can be protected from environmental damage for the entirety of its journey
  • This service is provided to you at no additional cost
